Danube – The Blue River

The Danube River is a unique place reserved in world history. It has been featured important events in world history in areas such as natural history, ecological, political, economic, cultural and has even lent its name to the famous composer Johann Strauss waltz The Blue Danube.

It is also the longest in the European Union -2.860 kilometers and one of the longest in Europe, only surpassed by the Volga. This long European river crosses the territory of ten countries, where they take a different name. (more…)

Kalemegdan Fortress

Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and is a beautiful city with ancient architecture, one of the most special places in Eastern Europe. Here, among the Orthodox churches and museums, we should not miss the visit to Kalemegdan fortress city overlooking the city with centuries of history.

Beyond the walls of this citadel are the remains of many peoples: Celts, Avars, Huns, Greeks, Romans, Hungarians, Germans, Turks and Slavs several. Especially the Turks have made their mark here as occupied Serbia for nothing more and nothing less than 5 centuries (until 1878), and they called this city among rocks sign Bair hill of reflection, because from here the visitor can reflect the history of the city of Belgrade.

Knez Mihailova – The Liveliest Street (II)

STOJANOVIĆ MARKO’S HOUSE, Knez Mihailova 53-55, about 1889 built as a private home of the lawyer Marko Stojanović, in the renaissance style. Here used to be the Academy of Fine Arts, established in 1937, and now there is the Gallery of the Academy.

THE BLOCK OF URBAN HOUSES, Knez Mihailova 50, 48 and 46, built in 1870s, represented the beginning of discontinuity of traditional “Balkan” architecture. All those buildings have been shaped in the same manner, a transitional style from Romantisme to renaissance. The block consists of three buildings:

The House of Hristina KUMANUDI, No. 50, was built in 1870 as a corner building at the intersection of Kneza Mihaila and Dubrovačka streets. For A Certain Period, this building was the residence of the Ffrench-Serbian Bank, and later of the consulates of Belgium and Great Britain. (more…)

Avenue pedestrian Kneza Mihaila (also written as Knez Mihailova), always lively with pedestrians, is one of the oldest, with bourgeois mansions 1880. It was the center of the city in Roman times, and during the Ottoman Empire wore a myriad of gardens, fountains and mosques. Today it is the main commercial city.
